Fear Itself – Echoes (Director’s Cut)

Echoes tells the story of a somewhat likeable guy who moves into an apartment where he believes he once lived – 88 years ago.

Memories begin to appear to him like ghosts; he begins to believe that in this previous life he was a sadistic murderer – or is it all in his imagination?

Out of all the Fear Itself episodes, Echoes is my least favorite among the short-lived television show.

But the episode had some good moments, especially during Stephan’s flashbacks and his therapy sessions when Maxwell (his past life counterpart) spoke.

Karen (Zelda Fleming) was a tease, using her feminine wiles in both lifetimes. She certainly got what she wanted, and her part in both the past and the present is essential to the storyline. It’s always about a woman when it comes to a crime of passion, whether it is her doing or not.

However, Stephan did not appeal to my sympathies. But the twist ending was surprising, considering where all the signs point to during Echoes. The episode was decent, but it wasn’t my favorite of Fear Itself.
